Default Oil Leak

Ok, today, came into street, and oil light and ABS light came on

stopped car, big pool of oil under car

So, investigated, and found an Oil pipe, which fits onto radiator, under main water pipe from the thermostat. This pipe has sheared at the union, and threw out all the oil

now, can someone confirm what this is, haynes is a bit vague, but looks like an engine oil cooler pipe

second, I take it this means a new radiator?

any help would be appreciated

Intercooler I'd guess. Basically a second rad' for oil cooling. My 480Tub Auto had one just behind the main rad.

Good Luck.

Yes there is an oil cooler built into the right hand side of the radiator.

Are you sure it has sheared off? The pipe is a push fit and is held on with a metal spring clip.

Which connector is it? The one at the rad or the one at the block?

I only had a quick look and it looked sheared, but I was expecting some sort of screw on pipe, so I may be in luck

I will nip out again after lunch and have a better look, and take some photos

it looks like a previos owner has bodged it, as there are 2 tye wraps and some sort of home made clamp arrangement on it.

No it's not a screw in pipe. I am assuming you are talking about one of the connections to the radiator.

The pipe has 2 seals and pushes into a socket on the radiator. A metal clip fits onto the pipe and around the rad socket to hold the pipe in place.

These clips can rust through and become very brittle/fragile - when I replaced my rad all of the clips broke when I removed them. (which is why I ordered new ones to come with the new rad ;-)

pipe seems to fit ok into the rad, so I think a new seal, and clamp, and hopefully it will be a quick fix
