V70 owners-Chadderton/Oldham beware theft
Hi just to let fellow V70 owners in the Chadderton /Oldham area to be on their guard as today at 13.30 i had my rear number plate stolen virtually in front of my very eyes by 2 young scrotes, and if i wasn't that fast to run out of the house they would have had the front one as well.I was having lunch and saw 2 shifty types walk past the house and peer into the window ,minute later same went back other way then saw them walk onto my drive so i shot out to confront them, anyway bastards ran off faster than i could chase them to a waiting 2007 ford focus [a waiting driver then sped both of them away]-unbelievable.I contacted police straight away,So i don't know if they stole plate to fill up with fuel and do one or for a burglary or in order to steal or have already stole a silver P2 volvo V70 D5 [with orestes alloys]So just be extra vigilant, and maybe think about having a mechanical fixing instead of double sided tape for your plates, apparently there are at least 500 plates stolen every week.I know i will either bolt or rivit my plates from now o.n

Sound advice regarding number plates, 'sv70'. Our local parish council give away one-way screws on request for this purpose. Attempting to undo the screws is futile; the only way to remove the plates being to destroy them.
Regards. John.

It is a sad state of affairs John but unfortunately it seems it is a growing problem and mechanical fixings are a must as a deterrent, and the clutch screws you mention as well as rivets or nut and bolts are the only way.

I have always used mechanical fixings on my car numberplate for this very reason.
