Bevel gear oil
Guys! Can I use Castrol syntrax longlife 75w90 GL-5 to replace the fluid in the bevel/angle gear instead of the original part number 31259380 which has the same specs? 2011 XC70 D5

Check, check and check again to make sure you are happy.
But as far as I know if your vehicle requires GL-5 then it should be ok. Just make sure there are no subtle differences within manufactures of the GL-5 oils. In my opinion so long as 1. the specs match and 2. you use a quality brand of oil it should be fine, no need to pay the premium of Volvo endorsed oil. websites such as below can help - Never trust Wikipedia - manufacturer data is also good, so long as the information is factual and not adverts (I avoid manufacturer data which says stuff like "we make the best..... provides superior..." https://www.oilspecifications.org/api_gos.php https://www.total.co.uk/differences-gear-oil-grades https://www.rymax-lubricants.com/blo...gl-4-and-gl-5/ Maybe someone here with exact experience could provide better advice |

Thanks for your update, I think the same. It should be fine.
Meanwhile I tried to suck out the oil from the filler hole (there is only one plug) with my 12v oil pump's very thin hose but I was not able to access inside the hole. There is something - a gear or other element - which blocks the hose. I tried from many different angles etc without any success. I also realized that there are many types of angle gears on the P3 models. For example there is a total different angle gear in volvosweden's youtube how-to video - The fill/drain plug is located a different place and also the two angle gears shapes are not the same. The attached picture from VIDA - configured on my car profile. There are two types of angle gear ( The last two are the same as mine) Anybody can me help out how to drain / suck out the oil from the gear?

I haven't changed the oil in a diff on these yet, but I would be surprised if there was not a drain hole.
Hopefully someone with better knowledge can help |
