Exclamation Changing rear brake disks and pads help please

Please any advice. I have come to change my rear disks and pads on my 2012 v70 estate . I wound my Electri handbrake back and calipers back using Delphi changed one side no problem. But when it comes to changing other side couldn't push caliper back in far enough to put new pads in.It is just a bit short . Any help please? It has wound the handbrake back . Cheers

When I did mine I wound the pistons back in by using a 9v battery with the polarity reversed. I still had to push the pistons back in a bit manually and slacken off the bleed nipple to make it easier, pushing some fluid out.

It was then a case of operating the handbrake a few time to wind the motors in and out and then (obviously) bleed the system.

Did you take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir? If not you may have simply caused a hydraulic lock if there is to much fluid in the system.

Agreed, try winding back with tool again. If that doesn't work you have two (very doable) choices:
1) locate the two Allen head bolts that secure the EPB to the caliber and take the motor off. Once removed put the Allen key in the middle of the exposed cylinder and manually rewind the brake piston all the way in.

2) unplug the EPB and as per previous post attach a 9 or 12 volt battery to the two connection points. Try it one way, if piston winds outwards switch the polarity and do it again. Hold it there until it stops. This option is my preference.

Winding back the handbrake won't pull the piston in. It sounds like the piston is still out too far and will need levering back in to make room for new pads. Remove brake fluid reservoir and check that it won't overflow when piston is pushed back. If needed remove some fluid with a syringe. I also open the bleed nipple when prising the piston back so as not to damage any seals in the master cylinder. Has your brake fluid been changed in the last couple of years ? If not it's a good time to flush it through with fresh fluid. If you empty the reservoir with a syringe as much as possible then fill with fresh before bleeding it will save a lot for fluid to completely change / flush the system . You may be lucky but to get a really good pedal I had to bleed system about four times using traditional method. A power bleed system, pressure or vacum might work quicker.

Whoops, MF is absolutely right I'm sorry. Ignore my previous post. You need a c clip to push piston in some more.

I use a vacuum bleeder to change the fluid on mine, worked first time and no mess.
As I changed the fluid on part work pads I will use a srynge to remove fluid from the reservoir before pushing pistons back to change pads.
I used to use a large lever but since the advent of modern brakeing systems have baught a proper clamp to wind them back, don't want to be knackering pumps or valves doing the job.

Paul.
