And the answer is:
- take metal coathanger, unwind straighten out and chop off bits as needed
- kneel down with face in drivers footwell
- look left relatively close to the where you'd have your knees ans there is a small gap - poke coathanger in and gently probe to see if you can span the central section.
- coathanger doesn't emerge. Spend some time looking for it
- conclude there is a lot of hanger in there and it should be visible really
- look down side of pass console and there it is, prodding up against a piece of trim
- back to pass footwell, remove two screws holding panel with little light unit and remove panel
- hanger now visible
- tape wire to side of hanger in driver's side and slowly pull through

From there you can do what you like obviously. I used a piggy back fuse on the cabin 12v (switched) fuse to wire in an additional12v socket so i can 1 charge my phone (satnav on google maps) whilst in cradle in the lower right corner of screen and 2 power my gps speed camera detector which also lives on drivers side.

Hope helpful
