Default Alternator/Rectifier issue?

2002 V70 2.0 T Petrol Manual
Getting a sporadic warning "EL Current High Stop Safely" and battery is not charging.
The battery is brand new. I've checked the battery, with the car running and it's showing >13V DC. When I check AC on initial touch of the probes it shows c.5V AC and drops immediately to 0V AC. Does that show that either the alternator or the rectifier (or both) need to be replaced?
I'm not seeing any dimming of lights when I operate AC or other large power consumers.
A little bit of history, the car sat in a yard for 20 months without being started. Started on the first key turn with a boost 4 weeks ago, I put in a new battery. The only thing I've done since then is remove the ETM to clean it which successfully cured an idling problem.
