Every 2 years but the next one is the last upgrade as Volvo will no longer support the Sensus units in the early P3s. Whether having a built in sat sav is a necessity that cannot be forgone or merely a minor piece of unnecessary tech gear, the way Volvo have withdrawn support before the cars are even out of mandatory spare part support doesn't inspire confidence in their attitude towards the products they sell. They didn't even offer the option for owners to pay for further map upgrades which have until now been free downloads.

How do I know whether my RTI system is MMM, MMM+ or MMM2 ?
(I've got a hard drive in the boot if that's significant.)

Take the disc out of the hard drive and see if it tells you.
Look on satnavdisc.co.uk for the disc you want. If yours is there its£29.99 for the one covering the UK.

In the beginning, the updates weren't free. You paid a small fee for the DVD pack, unless you knew a friend you could borrow it from, then a larger fee for the code required to install it. Later, Volvo introduced the software update to make the RTI in 2012-2014 cars possible to update via downloads from the internet, just like the 2015-2016 were from the beginning.
Since then, two (or is it three?) updates have been published. Now we are waiting for the last, they say. The 2015-2016 maps have been updated more frequently, like twice a year or so. We have one car of each type, so I can easily compare that. If you go to NAV, setup, properties (or whatever it's called in the English menu system), you can find information about the navigation software and map versions. |

I bought a set of 2012 maps on ebay a few years ago, and they've been fine. I decided to buy an updated version a year or two ago, and they were dodgy. So you takes your chances with ebay. I use my RTI system as a wide view guide of where the traffic hotspots are, and I'll use either Waze or my Tomtom to navigate by, and this is generally for long trips. I know I know - I probably look like a real geek with 2 satnavs on the go at the same time, but it works for me.

I bought "disk C" which includes UK off an eBay seller last week, installed and thus far seems to be all working ok. 2017 maps for £22.
