Just bought a used 2008 XC70 3.2l automatic, AWD, and quite like it. It doesn't have the 'kick' of a turbo engine, as I know it from a S60 2.5T, for example, but smooth engine with enough power. It requires 91octane to run properly. Consumption for me ranges between 15l and 9-10l depending on city, motorway, countryside driving. But then here in Canada max. speed is 100-120km. Mine has a strange noise when accelerating, but no issues caused so far.
The AWD works really well with immediate response, as far as I can tell so far.
Ideally get one with the full tech that was available (xenon, distance radar, BLIS, parking assistant etc.), and make sure that the tech is working (no error messages). But if you choose to go for one with radar, don't go for 2008, they improved the radar from 2009 on, I think.
Which year are you planning to go for?

Quite frankly, I'm planning on P2 V70 2.4 na.
Exactly as I have, but with less miles.

But then, "better half" wants an XC90.
To which I say plain "No". Not with what it burns.
(Only petrols considered, I'm in London)
So middle ground is XC70.

Quite like it, but..

Finding a 3.2 IAS as easy as putting a filling in ducks tooth.
There is few 3.0...
But.
Some bad fame that I want to check.
