Default Volvo V70 error code

Hi, I have a Volvo V70 2008 2.4 diesel automatic that has the following error memory P040422 Exhaust gas recirculation monitoring signal error. This was checked after when travelling on motorway car would not accelerate. Other symptons bad smell of fuel, rough idle. Could it be anything else other than an egr valve or cooler with this error code? Thanks

A BAD smell of diesel would probably indicate the leak off lines. Does it smell like diesel or the fumes of burnt/combusted diesel?

I had both on mine - diesel fumes (most obvious in the cabin) was the injector seals. You could also see/hear the injector chuffing too.

The diesel smell (most obvious in the bonnet) was my leak off lines. This was split and leaking diesel onto the top of the engine. New hoses/lines and leak off seals sorted this all.

A faulty EGR ( I had this too!!) can produce a limp mode too. I cleaned my EGR and it's not done it since but I feel it'll probably come back to haunt me! Mine was worst when a used cruise control for an extended period. I have VIDA/DICE and a scan would confirm the only issue was signal low on the EGR. Cleaned it (and it was filthy) and it's been fine since.

These engines really don't do good city journeys - a good long trip on the motorway frequently and I don't think most of these things happen. Short trips at lower speeds, the economy drops and all sorts of things don't get a good regular blast out!

Its more than likely a mechanical problem a sticky valve see if it moves smoothly by hand , clean it out ...
