Default Brand new XC60 - front parking sensor fault?

Hi folks advice and guidance required please.

First time Volvo owner (XC60) which I took possession of in November.

Basically my front parking sensors keep activating ......predominantly when its raining.

This morning I took it to the dealership who advised that this is a common issue where water gathers in the recess surrounding the sensor which activates the sensor - repeated constant activation results in a warning message pops up "sensor blocked and needs cleaning"....really???

Surely they get rain in Sweden and this would have been designed out!

Any similar experiences or am I being fobbed off.?

They also informed me that front number plate alignment is causing issues too....which was not the case with mine.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance....BTW the car is amazing (B5 petrol)

I have a V90 which does this occasionally in heavy rain at low speeds.

However my wife has a Toyota Auris which is much worse and we've come to realise that its caused by water running off the front edge of the bonnet, streaming over the inner front sensors and setting them off.

The heavy rain/low speed occurrence on my V90 seems to imply a similar cause, could this be why yours are activating?

Occasionally they get triggered by exhaust fumes, when I'm too close to the car in front - but it lasts a second or so. Never read about any common issues with parking sensors on SAP cars..

If you keep a chamois or something and then wipe of the rain when this happens you can prove/disprove it.

I should imagine rain-X coated on the sensors would prevent these issues.

I would, given it is brand spanking new, try the Rain x on a hidden pet of paint to be 100% sure.

My 2012 model is loved by me! I would just put the rain-x straight on that if it did it.

Thanks for the replies folks....grateful.

I just seen that there is a rain x specifically for plastics which I assume is what the outside of the sensor is made up of......in particular the front sensor which is farthest from the front number plate almost concealed within the black styling on the R design.

With the V60 is was the number plate fitted to low UK plates are larger than Swedish. Mine had the same problem refitting about 15mm higher fixed it.

I use rain x on my windows and it works very well. I should give that a try. I didn’t actually know they had a plastic version. Sounds good.

Mine does this on occasion. Often when I’m coming to slow with a car in front (when a good distance from the car in front!).

I’ve just learnt to live with it because the hassle of taking to a dealer would prob outweigh it going off once in a while..

But it’s not just yours!
