Tick over is fie, imo as long as its a reasonable oil, revving, however, is not, i hate it when you get that one neighbour that owns a commercial vehicle and they sit there revving it straight after startup at pre-sparrow O'the clock

I remember a few years ago on the news someone got fed up of a group of "boy racers" and put expanding foam in all their exhausts.

And doesn’t flatten car battery, or require the engine to tick over, which I’ve always understood was not ideal for the car.
I’m not advocating revving the engine immediately on startup, that’s daft, but I’ve read over the years that it’s better for oil circulation to drive off as soon as practicable (eg after fastening seatbelt, checking mirrors etc).

Having said that, lubrication systems may have improved in more modern engines.

Still think it’s a bit antisocial (and risky insurance-wise?) to leave a car ticking over unattended.....

i think with certain auto boxes that the "leap in car, start engine, drive off"
Can cause a "harsh" jolt as it takes up drive
whereas "start car, allow to come off enrichment mode > Then drive off " gets the ATF circulating a lot better = no harsh jolt
similar applies to the engine oil, start > allow to come Off enrichment mode > drive off (sensibly) allows the lubes to circulate a Lot better than the "leap in, spin key, drive off like you stole it"

manual boxes may also benefit (but not as much) from the "allow the car to come off enrichment mode" before driving, the engines certainly will,

leaving a car on the road , engine running,, no driver =perhaps not The best idea ,,yet on your Own private driveaway different kettle of strawberrys,
**as long as its in park/neutral/ handbrake on etc etc,, use Common sense,, )

*****if common sense isnt installed in the driver (approx 68.42% and rising) go buy a ~POS~ french car :P
******total clownshoes already have an audi/bmw/vw so,, theres no hope there :P

If you have something like a Tesla, then you open the App on you smart phone and heat the cabin remotely.
