Bit of an engine oil concern
Hi all,
Whilst towing about 600 kg’s around Scotland for a few days last week I quickly checked my engine oil levels and surprise, it had gone down to reading at just under half. Last year I got the low engine oil light on when I towed a rib up in Scotland for about 150 miles etc. Anyway, once I dropped of the trailer this time and got home after a motorway stretch I noted the oil engine levels had returned up to around the 75% as I think is normal. Is there anything here to be worried about for long term ownership? Previously I had also been warned at its service that the crank seal was leaking oil but my selling dealership never did anything about this. Many thanks in advance

Most probably nothing to worry about. Your oil level is fine. Crank seal? If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. In this case if it isn’t dripping to any great extent, it isn’t broken.
Be happy and worry free. It probably has very many miles of trouble free motoring ahead of it. If your service agent really does recommend doing the seal at some point, yes do it, as long as you are sure that they are not just ‘reading’ you and saying what they think you want to hear.

Following this with interest. I’m currently driving a (seemingly) bomb proof 2004 XC70 and find myself drawn to a V90 or V90 CC. Keen to see how much pain I might be bringing in to my life!

Yes it does, in the rear. Quite an odd noisy thing though. When I park on an awkward slip or slope I can occasionally catch it working itself out!

My suspicion is that this is going to be a great long term ownership for me but as I also use it for work in aquaculture it will be interesting to see just how long it lasts with me!
