Alarm keeps going off!?

As title, my alarm keeps going off. I have noticed it a few times over the past couple of weeks. Doesnt seem to be any reason, parked in the street or in a carpark it just goes off once every day or two, not all the time. Could it be the cold weather, or some water getting into something? Any ideas what to look for? it's a 2004 with 172k on the clock.

It's more than likely that it is the well-known problem of a failed internal battery in your alarm module.
What happens is that the NiMh battery fails and the electrolyte then leaks out over circuit board and ruins it. Some people have had some success in replacing the battery, but most have to replace the alarm module. You may be lucky; if it is only happening in the cold weather, it could be an early warning that the battery voltage is dropping, so you might catch it before it starts to leak.
There is a lot of information on the V70/XC70 part of this forum; they use the same unit and suffer the same problem.

Hi, I had the same problem with my car, first time it turned out to be a seat belt that was stuck in the door at the back. opening just enough to set the alarm off and closed enough not to show an error.

The second time it was due to the cold weather and my battery was on the way out. It also affected my electric windows for some reason. I would suggest getting your battery tested and see if it's that.

Otherwise get the battery in the alarm unit tested.

Might be a long shot, but I was having problems with my alarm going of intermittently.
I had some coins (carpark change) in the cup holders in the center console, apparently they can interfere with the alarm. Also, mobile phones and the kids tablets, when left switched on in the car (hidden in the boot) seem to have falsely triggered the alarm.

Having removed all the coins and tried switching off/shutting down the other devices, I have (touch wood) had no further false alarms.

My Son can set off my alarm with his remote controlled car.
Radio interference can come from many sources I'm afraid.
Whilst parked at a relatives home in Surrey last year, I had to leave it unlocked as the alarm would set off without apparent cause.

I also had this issue due to the kids leaving their kindles/wifi tablets in the car when parked up and caused a problem with keyfob once too.

glad I joined the forum, and found this.. Had trouble with my alarm when parked up in the middle of the country park.. A few times, will make sure the kids tablets are not left in there, or its off to the dealer to have a look while it's still got some warranty..

There is nothing left in the car, but the neighbours are having a new driveway so I wonder if the ground bashing machines have anything to do with it. Although it has happened a couple of times in carparks away from home aswell so guess it could be the battery.
