Maybe The end of the Volvo
So today while driving to and from work i could smell diesel in the car got home popped the bonnet and the smell got worse but could not spot any leaks, so looked under the car and its covered, cleaned it up and it seems to be leaking from the pump, guessing these are not user servicable.
quick look on the local moterfactors and there are about £350 thats with a £100 trade in for the old one, will see if the local Marine diesel place will recon it for me if its worth doing so. so what i want to know is if getting the pump out is hard work and are they prone to giving up? PS: I did find a brand new one at £1500....... didnt know they still made them lol Last edited by Nullsleep; Nov 5th, 2020 at 16:11. |

oo nice, well i cant see it being much else there is only 2 Fuel lines coming from the pump at the top, 1 in 1 out, and then the 5 high pressure lines at the back all of which arent leaking, the lines them selfs are all good, with the engine off i can feel around under the pump and the closer to the pully the more diesel i feel, and every pipe under the pump is dripping wet.
how much for one of the pumps? |

You need to make sure it is 1998 as the 1999 model years have different pumps.
does it have a manual style air flow meter? 1998 will also have a lambda symbol as an EML rather than the newer style... https://www.media.volvocars.com/image/low/6258/1_1/5

Yes old eml light, v5c says date first registered on the 1/1/1998, and the air flow thing is a big chucky looking one

Pumps are bulletproof. They only ever leak if someone has been using Veg oil or Bio diesel in them.
