The advice about holding it against the screen until I find an area that works seems like the most sensible. Having said that, it appears that the screen is clear of heater elements at both bottom corners and I wondered if anyone has experience of fitting the tag there. Thanks in anticipation.
I have the XC90 with heated screen and had the tag fitted at the top of the screen about 6 inches from the mirror fitment and it worked perfectly when I was driving in France 5 weeks ago. Just make sure you get close enough to the barrier for it to work as I found the bonnet needed to be about 3 feet or less from the barrier.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a whirl when I go and leave feedback when I return.

Hi
Had a great trip to France but without any definitive solution about where to fit my toll tag. I only went through 4 booths 2 at start and 2 at end. On each occasion I held the tag against the screen close to the cover behind the mirror with no response from the barriers. As I moved the tag away to hold it out of the window the barrier beeped and went up, so I really don't know where the optimum position is. It seems the heated screen was interfering with the signal. Next time I go to France I intend to attach the tag temporarily to the housing behind the mirror and see what happens.
Cheers everyone.

I tried that when I first had mine and it didn't work in that position. I have it immediately to the left of the housing about 2 inches down from the top of the screen and it works a treat. It has never failed in dozens of uses.

BTW I also have the heated screen.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Any chance of pictures? I think it would help a few people.

Thanks Mike. Do you think different sides of the screen have different characteristics? As I held my tag in roughly the position you describe, except it was on the UK drivers side and it didn't work. Confused or what??? I really think Volvo or Saneff should be able to give us a definitive answer to this but they just trot out the stock answers. There must be thousands of Volvos driving round France with these things working fine.

I had mine on the passenger side, because if you come towards the gate you will see a square looking flat plate which I think is the receiver and that is on the passenger side of brit cars.

Thanks
That could be a very valid point, hadn't thought of that as I always assumed the receiver was in the gantry above the toll gate.
Cheers.

Mine is in the same place. Again a heated screen. And it has always worked on half a dozen trips through France.

I believe that the sensor is a flat plate on a pole on the lhs near the barrier...
