Drivers Electric seat switch pack loose

Was looking at a xc90 (2007) and the drivers electric seat switch pack was loose from the seat.

Is this a common problem?

Is it easy to repair?

Dunno how common it is but mine is loose/broken too.

I have the exec with the special (expensive) switch plate so I'm living with it for now.

I'm going to try the dealer when I get home as its a Selekt car with one month of warranty to run and it looks to me as if the panel was broken and glued before I bought the car.

I think they break because, as the driver slides up and into the seat, the edge of the cushion depresses, allowing pressure to bear on the otherwise rigid switch panel.

It's only a matter of time before it breaks.

IIRC the standard plate is about £20 from FRF Swansea whereas the one for the massage seats is more than £70.

Let us know how you get on with the repair/replace.

Oops - just noticed, you were only looking at this one - not a show stopper I would say but mention it to the seller and haggle a discount.

Have the same problem, caused exactly as Harley Dave described.
Also tried gluing the switch surround, incluing using hot glue, but it didn't hold. Now the side panel has broken in two.
The side piece for the Exec is not the part identified by cassell, although there is a correct one on Ebay priced around £75.

This is about the same price as my dealer will charge - plus £28 for fitting.

By coincidence I asked them to get one for me this morning.

Look on youtube there are videos on there on replacing the plastic covers.

Our passenger one went (electric seat as well) and I used fibreglass to fix it as a temporary measure. It's work so well that I haven't got round to replacing it yet.

Well, I finally got around to replacing the broken massage seat switch panel on the driver's side of my 2011 Exec

I found a reasonably priced one on eBay (£63 inc p&p from Caffyns) on Tuesday and it arrived 2 days later, via DPD, exactly when they said they would deliver.

I was disappointed to see the part number for the new part is the same as the original so there are no "improvements" incorporated and I expect that it too will break in due course. (Unless I can remember to be extra careful getting in and out - unlikely...)

I followed advice from here on removing the old broken panel (battery -ve disconnected) and the only snag was trying to get the actual massage switch disconnected as it's too big to fit back through the aperture in the panel.

I couldn't find the connector under the seat and didn't want to delve any deeper into the bundle of cables in there so I took a (calculated) risk and disassembled the actual switch so I could remove the old panel.

It was easy enough (no scary springs going "poing" into your eyes) and even if the sliding contacts inside the switch do move around, they only go back in one way.

I did find an interesting thing when I had the +/- fan switch in my hand as you will see in the photo. The switch has VOLVO moulded into the housing but also has Fo Mo Co markings.

Other photos show the old broken panel and the new one, with the memory switch already in place.

It's all in and working so I suppose now I need to get on and give the car a hoover and a clean.
