External temperature gauge is the small peice below the passenger door mirror. The cover and glass need to be removed. I have a new one on order as mine has gone too! Does your problem affect the engine or gearbox? It can seemingly change the engine management....

Not sure if they are all the same but on my MY2011 you have the 'puddle' light at the closer edge (nearest the door) and a small 'button' that sticks out and down towards the edge furthest from the door. That would be my sensor position.

This might help.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6mX50oalN8
