Visiting friends in Broughty Ferry, Dundee this weekend. 350mls round trip from Tyneside in the 1987 740GL saloon. Armchair comfort with some lovely scenery.

Thankfully my jaunt down south was uneventful but an enjoyable drive, made much more bearable due to superb aircon and auto box.
720 miles covered in total. Just need to wash the poor thing now |

Last friday returned back from a week on the Isle Of Wight.
I didn't take the 1996 940 LPT auto even though has working AC, but would of meant emptying boot and putting all my tools into the lexus and 240. Went in the Lexus IS 220D as boot empty and did 762 miles in total! Cant believe how the miles rack up! It did 39.6mpg average, so not bad for a 2.2 turbo diesel with 175bhp. Never used 6th as need to be doing 80mph + Took 3 hours 15 minutes from Birmingham to Lymington. Traffic pretty good on the whole. Thought the Lexus is a safer car what with being more modern and its 5 star crash rating and 10 airbags. Missed the AC though as generally 27-28 degrees and one day 30 degrees. Sitting in sun and not driven said 34 degrees! Most days a slight breeze and windows all open. Ordered a nissens condenser for it to get the ECC working. Had it gassed but leaked out after 7 weeks. It was the cars longest journey so always worried at first if any issues, but thankfully none. Needs a clean in and out now and it's MOT is next Tuesday! James. James whereabouts on the island did you go? I’m from there originally and love going back especially in summer - when I can afford the boat prices!!
Cheers

Ferry prices were £200 return! We were based near Yarmouth, but travelled around to various places. Have relatives in Ryde so went out to restaurants and their places and had a great time. Went to Calwell Bay, Did the steam train together which was great and got to see the outside of the carriage with blue glass as featured on TV. Did the Abbey and saw the garden where previous Nuns are buried. Ryde beach and ate at the castle Hotel. Also did the Horse and Groom pub near to where we were staying twice, which had nice meals also and reasonable. Went to the Donkey Sanctuary. Previously did the Needles but disappointed, so didn't bother this time as too commercialised. My Nans favourite area is Ryde as lovely sandy beach and flat to walk on so good for people with mobility or heart problems. I should be going back in August to enlarge bathroom and fit shower tray and shower then September fitting their kitchen. James Last edited by volvo always; Jul 19th, 2018 at 16:46. |
