Default C70, 2012 turning the engine

Brain teaser it is necessary to turn the engine after the car has been idle for a long time approx. 1,5 years...outside. Wanted to turn the engine having taken out the spark plugs and disconnected all ignition coils for cleaning...but engine wont turn. On the panel flashes "Check the engine" and "Hood is open" Could it be the safety feature that does not allow to turn the engine? or should I think checking the starter or possibly the cylinders got stuck because of corrosion?

TBH i don't know about any safety feature on any car that would stop it cranking.

If you've got access to an OBD scanner see what codes, if any, you may have. Check the starter motor, the solenoid may be stuck. Check the battery - even if it's got 14V+ showing on it it have not be able to provide enough current to the starter to crank the engine. Try it with a different key - it may be some immobiliser fault.

My Mitsubishi sat on my driveway for 3+ years - because of lost keys. When they finally turned up i fitted a new battery, checked the filter box for birds, changed the oil & it fired up no problem.

Unless the plugs have been out for the time it's been sat outside i doubt it's seized. Put the plugs & coils back in the engine - get a new battery & go again.

You can try turning the engine by hand - which requires access to the main crank pulley bolt.

It's a brain teaser. Let us know how you get on.
