Question Loose wire, what's it for?

Hi all,
I just cleaned my V50 2.0 and found this wire under the hood. I did recently purchase this car, and have not seen this before. It was just tucked away a little. What is it? :O

I hope someone can help.

Thanks!
/Tomas

It's a earthing / grounding wire, not sure what the other end is meant to be attached to though!

Not sure if it goes to the same place on yours.

I was feeling in a helpful mood so decided to go and check my car.

It's from ground (car body) to one of the push on things for the engine cover, here's a photo from my car (same engine 2.0 petrol):

Thank you a ton! I must get the manual asap. Too bad I can't find one for my 2008 petrol manual. It seems like they only have the diesel?

You are a star! Thank you so much. I must go have a look at fixing that then!
Is it just so the engine is grounded?

I have no idea why it's there :P That's just how it is on my car! It might be to diffuse any ambient charges???

Maybe someone pulled the engine cover off too forcefully in the past and it pulled off the plastic push on thing and the ground wire came off with it too?

Maybe! A bit worrying, the car has just been at Volvo for a 240k KM service, and they didn't notice.
