Cool Hissing from Brakes - Servo

Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing an 02 reg S60 T5 SE Geartronic with 116k on the clock for £1290

However, when driving the car there is an air blowing/hissing noise coming from the brake pedal.
From reading various forums/post, it sounds like it needs a new Brake Servo.

I have had quotes ranging from £550 from an independent garage to £850 from a franchised dealer.

The person selling the car, said he would knock the price down a bit, how much should I be looking at?
I am after some advice, am I better off not bothering with the car?
Is 116k high miles for a T5?

More than likely the brake servo. It's not a cheap part, about £350 or more if you have DSTC. Sub frame has to be dropped a bit to get it out on right hand drive cars, so several hours work. So the price quoted for the work looks about right although the dealer one may be a bit high.

Do you think its worth purchasing the car, and paying replace the servo?

Is £1290 for the car about right?

I am sure I have seen something about the vac fitting needing renewing. Seal & 1 way valve.

The vacuum hose that goes into the servo as a one way valve & a rubber seal that is inserted into the servo. I am sure there's been problems with them.

Default Sussex Service + repair

Hello

I have now bought the car (good price I think), but now need to get a full service + the brake servo replaced.

I live in Sussex, between Brighton and Crawley.
Can anybody recommend a good garage to get the work done?

I am aware of Doves, Charlwood, and Amber Garage, has anyone had any experience with any of them?

Any advice would be appreciated.
