Default swhirl throttle control - help?

Hi guys,

My 06 xc90 diesel recently started displaying an "engine system service required" message on the dash so the wife took it into our local main dealers.

They checked the fault code then took a look at the throttle and say that "the control link rod is adrift due to a broken connection point on the swhirl throttle".

Apparently this broken connection will cost £700 to fix (inc vat)! Gulp!

Anyone know why so expensive? Apparently it's going to take £320 labour and £400 in parts to reconnect this blinkin rod!

Parts include 2 new NSI fuel pipes - total £170 (inc vat) even though there is nothing wrong with the current ones but they can't be re-used?

I see that a part listed as "GDH2G1 Link" is only £3.15. If this is the link that's broken then its costing me £700 to replace a £3 bit.

Anyone know how this can be done at lower cost?

The car still seems to be running fine but the dealer said we'll be missing top end acceleration and torque is limited so we should not do any towing (wife has a horse trailer)

Any help/advice greatly appreciated

Cheers

Marc

Hi
I had exactly the same problem occur on an 07 car with 96k, dealer was very good and there was a temporary repair costing about £50, no guarantees how long it would last. Like you £700 if it failed again.
However car had other issues, fault codes suggested turbo was failing, cam belt was due, discs needed doing all round, +++ about 3K in all.
Whilst I was disappointed that so much needed doing, maybe at that mileage it is expected. The car never let us down. Still I got a good trade in before the value disappeared over the 100K mile precipice!
