Presumably those people would still drive at their chosen speed without troubling their limiter in the slightest, and in so doing continue to cause the queues to which he referred?

So no different than now, where we can drive at the limit or below it?

Limiters are not equal, loads are not equal, gearing is not equal, all these things have bearing on the road speed that can be maintained on any given road . We there by have racing elephants.

So why try? You know the futility?

My commute is usually 160/180 miles a day, not popping to the shops, sorry I did not explain that properly, and I regularly travel longer distances. I don't notice any appreciable time saving at 70mph to say 55/60mph, even though our roads are appreciably quieter than down south. I have as I said put @25k miles on my car since February!!

Your point is perfectly valid with the conditions you cite
Same as my examples earlier, they will never be precise. That's averages for you

But I know what you mean, it is the stop start at traffic lights bends, passing that eats into the average and, if you try to keep the ECO meter high slow acceleration saves you fuel. Oh, for a wide open road.

Not only does it affect average speed, but it also greatly affects average fuel consumption.

Our 1981 244DL (2.1, 3Sp. Auto) routinely returned 23 MPG in mixed driving over an extended period. On our first visit to Sweden in it, we were pleasantly surprised to find that it returned 30+ MPG (full tank to full tank), mainly because we were driving several hundred miles at a stretch at a constant 90 KPH (56 MPH). The car just seemed to revel in it's natural habitat.

Regards, John.

I used to get 36/38mpg from my 940 2.3lpt, over 40mpg from my e39 525i and over 40mpg from my 2.8 v6 turbo Saab, all door to door 160 mile commute. Amazing what you can achieve by carefully driving. Take the eye off the ball and those figures plumetted. I miss all of those cars hugely, Will have an e39 540i sport at some point but they are getting expensive,!!

It is a known fact John that Moose power is always more economical than Horse , plus down hill with the wind up your chuff helps enormously!
