You can get the drivers side rear from the dealers but they no longer stock the passenger side rear.

I have been searching for the passenger side ones for 3 years with no luck had to use belted infant and child seats. You are prob better off selling up and buying a car that had them as standard both my Renault's that were older than my V40 did.

Please excuse my thickness but how are these fitted? The arrows in the photo don't make much sense to me, also can the seats still fold flat when the adapters are fitted? Thanks.

I know what you mean. In that photo, it appears as if the ISOFIX are at the top of the seats. What they were trying to explain in that photo, was that the ISOFIX is behind the seats....

ISOFIX fasteners and ISOFIX guide

The ISOFIX fasteners are installed in the rear seat on the outboard positions. The ISOFIX guide is stored in the trunk next to the spare wheel. Note:
Remove the Isofix guide, if you do not plan to use it for an extended period.
Remove the Isofix guide before folding down the rear seat back. Consult your Volvo retailer for more information on child safety accessories.

Installation of the ISOFIX guide
Push or press down the cushion foam in the seat in order to make the ISOFIX fasteners accessible. Then push both sides of the ISOFIX guide on to the fasteners before you install a child seat.
When installing the ISOFIX guide on the left side of the rear seat, begin by pushing aside the seat belt towards the middle of the car. The seat belt would otherwise hinder access to the fasteners.
Make sure that the fasteners are visible in the holes of the ISOFIX guide and that the text on the ISOFIX guide is in upright position.

Are the brackets easy to retrofit? Don't know that I fancy having to start drilling holes or whatever :-)

its a very easy job to undertake.
Anybody should be able to do it as the holes etc are already there.
All you will need to do the job is a ratchet socket or a spanner.

That sounds about my level :-) Do they attach to the seat back brackets? Can't see any other holes.

(mine's a Phase 2 also)

Most probably yes. When it comes to things like this, Volvo made it very easy to fit some things

Seems that once fitted they need to be removed if you want the back seat to go down? It's a big enough faff removing the car seat and belt every time but if I need to get a ratchet out as well this might be a non starter...
