Default Vvt solenoid

Hi guys, my VVT solenoid needs replacing as its making a noise on idle, well its that or the pulley so to diagnose which 1 it is thats wrong im hoping to replace my vvt solenoid with a good second hand part and if the noise goes away then i shall buy a new one, if not then ill have to replace the pulley, local dealer said it would be 462 quid. so im hoping its the soldenoid. i have a 1.6 s40i 2000 year, anyone got a vvt solenoid cheapish would be great.

I can understand what you are doing, seems a sensible way around this. I can only offer the bad news though that to be honest you will probably find its the pulley, as oppose to the solenoid, from my experiences here.

Default V V V T Pulley

Hi guys (again)
im really desperate to get this pulley changed in my car, cant afford to go to the local dealer as he wants nearly 500 quid to do the job. With no job moneys pretty sparse.Me and the family are coming down to SPRINGBOK Farm campsite in alfold in july and would really like it replaced before we set off from here in scotland. i have the pulley the timings been done not that long ago, so if anyone can help with the special tool needed to get the pulley changed it would be muchly appreciated.

I've got exactly the same problem, believe it's the pulley gone wrong...
But can I run the car with the solenoid unplugged? do any damage?
