Default Xc90 no swirl flap help

Hi all,

Ive just bought a volvo xc90 2008 d5. Upon driving it home it was good. I took it out yesterday and found an engine system service notice (yellow triangle). Ive plugged it into vida to find no major issues just old faults in the history. There is one showing up once reset stating air quality sensor.. also on engine inspection i noticed an oil leak from the rocker cover.

I have decided to first replace the gasket and seals. Now here is the issue.

Upon taking the rocker cover off ive found the swirl flaps missing!!!

Im wondering can i delete the swirl flap, leave it out, or buy the kit?

Any help will do...

Oh. The code from pressing the A button on the dash is 042.

It could be that it has had a software delete, and flaps removed. You would get a fault code otherwise I would suspect.
If the car is okay then let it develop.

Not having swirl flaps means you have less torque from the engine at very low rpm , pulling away from rest for example .

Many thanks for the reply.. would this allow limp mode to activate? Also what are other implications?

Im installing a new swirl flap on saturday. Is it "plug and play" or do i need to do something on vida?

Thanks

You don't seem to get a fault code when they are stuck open but you do when they are stuck shut as the airflow meter measures less air flow than desired at low rpm ..

Nothing special needed , just fit new parts and away you go .

All in it was £90.. all installed now. Got it on vida and done some calibrations. Only issue im having now is to perform a forced regen. When i start the regen it states aborted.

Anyone know what to do to start a forced regen

The engine must be error free, and at normal nominal operating temperatures and pressures. Only then can a regen occur.

If you have any fault codes logged, you need to fix the faults first
