I think the main battery is in the rear nearside wing area. If you want to charge it there should be a big red flap under the bonnet, lift it up and you have the + terminal, use any exposed bolt for the -.
Hope this helps.

You must - MUST - use the terminals in the bonnet to charge the battery if you don't want to be the back of a queue at the dealer when it re-opens.

The panel in the boot (left hand side) just pulls off with a bit of force. If you desperately want to charge the battery directly I'd strongly recommend disconnecting it from the car first.

Why do you need to charge it, anyway? The capacity is huge and will happily stand several months between starts especially now the temperature is picking up for the summer.

Ray has not said he wants to charge the battery. I introduced the 'charging' point just in case. May be he is just inquisitive.
I have had to charge my S90 twice during lock down as the voltage was down to under 12 volts on both occasions.
I do open the car regularly to push it in and out of our small garage and can hear much electrically powered activity taking place which must be taking it's toll on the available power.

You must only charge it from the two points under the bonnet put there for that very purpose . This way the cars systems are able to monitor every stage of the charge and save it . Don't worry about the Aux battery that looks after itself .
Volvo have issued a notice to charge the battery every 2 weeks if it is parked up for weeks .

When my car broke down (again) the other week for steering lock sensor, the tech who came out said ok to charge battery direct. The posts just protect from surges.

Yes, unfortunately unlike BMW, Volvo don’t have dedicated techies in the road, so he’s constantly reading instructions from a laptop. But I will ask next time as I’m sure the pile of crap will breakdown again very soon.
