Do not believe the naysayers about this satnav - it works very well giving full postcode search, traffic and thousands of POIs The people who complain about it don't have it and will say that they don't have it becuase it is rubbish - strangely the people who have spec'd it and ave it think it is very good. May be something to do with affordability rather than capability BTW if you post this in the XC60 discussion forum you will get more responses |

I concur with the above, and it's no more expensive than any other factory fitted Sat-nav system. Once you get used to the "nipple" control on the steering wheel it is very intuitive - big thumbs up from me also.

Couldnt agree more. Have had factory fitted sat-nav in last two cars, tom toms, PDA versions and to be honest the volvo system is the best I have come across. The TMC (traffic master control) is great and accurate and re-routes to avoid problems along the route. Scrolling in 3D is also a great feature.
Would give it 9.5 out of 10.

All fine and dandy and call me tight if you like but why pay for something that stays with the car, won't add a lot to the resale value and is a huge cost compared to portable units?
Added to which we have 3 cars and if each had inbuilt satnav! Just a my opinion and I guess that's it - it's a personal choice thing.....me I spent the cash saved on a iPhone 4 and iPad to feed my gadget habit. |

I'm not dissing factory sat nav, I'm sure it works very well.
What I just don't get is how I can buy a top spec Tom Tom for 300 notes but most manufacturers want upwards of £1200 for what does the same thing (or actually less) with a few nicely moulded buttons on the dash. The margin on these options must be enormous. |

Yes I do believe we are being fleeced...
US XC60 Multimedia Option is $2700, which is somewhere around £1750 and includes sat nav, 2 map upgrades, park assist camera and Premium sound. Not sure that price inludes tax, let's say it doesn't and add 15%, making it about £2000. In Blighty sat nav on it's own is £1500. Camera and premium sound hi-fi, that'll be an extra £1200 thank you very much. Map upgrades are what £100 each? Yes I think built in sat nav looks great and functions better than a TomTom stuck on the window with a cable trailing across the dash to the fag lighter socket. Does it really cost 5 or 6 times as much for Volvo to buy and install their own version? Me thinks not. I'd be happy to get a used car with it built it as it would likely have depreciated by close to 100%. I wouldn't pay for it on a new car - not at those rip off prices Volvo (and all the others) are charging. |

You are paying for the integration as you have said. The price is the only reason I didn't spec it, before the recent changes they used to cost £1950 before it was dropped to £1500.
I agree they are massively over priced but a nice to have. Maybe lots of these are bought by businesses and can swallow the cost by offsetting something else. Functionally they don't have all bells and whistles of a TOMTOM or Garmin but they do the job well enough for most people. If one was a conspiracy theorist you could say the manufacturers are fixing the prices of the Sat nav. Since they all seem to be around the same price point. I bought the leather and the DAB so I should maybe have bought the Premium, satnav would have been 1050 which is still a lot. |

Tomtom = £300 tops, Volvo sat nav = £1500
£1200 for a few buttons on the dash and a cable to the stereo? I'd love to know the real cost of this kit, they must be making at least a grand on every sale. |
