If not Volvo it would help others if you mentioned what make and model vehicle you are talking about.

How do you know the turbo itself has failed?

A turbo lasts the life of the car unless there is something wrong with the oil supply .. Best find out the cause of the failure first ...

Sorry Mercedes a class 2.0 diesel auto, there was a pop then no power and lots of smoke when it ticks over it sounds normal but when you rev it , it sounds like exhaust is blowing badly it is right at the front of the engine so yo can hear it did do a google it's not un common for the lining to come off the manifold and damage the turbo so I'm guessing it's done this will get it into my local garage in the morning but may need a specialist for it thanks for the replies

sounds like a simple hole or split in a turbo boost pipe , or intercooler split?

Thanks clan that would be the best option there is hope when it popped it ran really bad and lots of smoke but after a minute all clear but no power at all when it ticks over it is normal no smoke only when you rev it it sounds like a tractor so hopefully it may be a pipe thanks again will post back when it's been in tomorrow

I got a new turbo for my RAV from http://www.turbotechnics.com/ . One of the essentials was to replace the oil feed pipe -as I understand it, the old one will probably be blocked and the new Turbo would quickly fail.
