vid - cool, looks like it pulls like a train Im always astounded how FWD cars are geared compared to mine, you are on Manual tranny right? I can barely reach 85Mph before redline where it doesnt want to pull anymore.

edit - technical question, how did you manage to stabilise the screen so much? GoPro or some phone holder? all my tries with phone looks like Im driving over potholes :P

I cleaned MAP sensor weeks after doing all the other stuff, so would have been a combination of everything just being held back by the dirty MAP sensor. I think I'll still replace it anyway.

with regards to the camera, I'm just using a Go pro style camera (cant remember which brand!) which came with a stick-on mount. I guess the camera automatically reduces any shaking. I haven't made any setup/config changes to it!

Been reading this thread and others with interest.

I'm having problems with a 'lack of go' on my 2008 V50 T5, low miles under 30k.

Cleaned the MAP sensor several weeks ago and the first drive was great.. Boosting nicely with the nice 5-cylinder sound. But has quickly gone back to a lack of go..

Also previously replaced the TCV and CBV a while back which revived the car for the first few drives but the car also decided to revert back to reduced power soon after..

Looking to clean the MAF next: Whats the best way to clean it: MAF Sensor out or the Tube containing the sensor out?

Anything else to try? FPS?

Sensor out itself, but you need odd star-shaped key with hole in it. Just use proper MAF cleaning spray not some "whatever handy" but I gues you know that.
FPS is always good to do if wasnt done, its almost a consumable on T5's, but best thing to do is to get Vida+Dice or some good OBD tool as otherwise you go blind. The amount of stuff I diagnosed with my DICE, best thing you can get for T5, really.

Nice video T5R92011, thats a really smooth an strong pull right the way up!

My 2009 S40 is now on 149k which is pretty good, +1 on the throttle body, I did mine and it was absolutly horrible in there!

But +1 on all those sensors, I didnt clean mine ... just replaced them all.

I think at this point its also worth having a look at all the bushes as well, thats next on my list to replace all those!

Thankyou both above, for your input..

Will give the MAF sensor a clean with a specific cleaner.

Good shout with VIDA and DICE, as you say i'm working blind atm and shot-gunning sensors that are known to go bad! One thing that would be interesting to know is: will DICE give expected values for sensor readings? I.e Will I be able to diagnose the faulty readings fairly accurately?

Judging with how the car ran straight after cleaning the BPS, I will replace it with a new sensor (have it ready) and see what happens.

Will take a look at the inside of the throttle body too- be interesting to see if i needs a clean.

What kind of age/mileage are people replacing there spark plugs and coils on these engines? This is my first turbo car, so far its been interesting experience!

Have recently fitted New OEM Lower Control Arms , as the old bushes had perished, which has refreshed the handling nicely.

I would say if you havent replaced the coils / splugs I would look at changing those soon as well. These are pretty much a consumable as well, I know some other T5 owners and they change theirs every other year, I have had mine on for about 3 years and both just been changed.

Has the car always felt slow to pickup since you had it?

If you replace the Spark Plugs regularly (say every 2 years or 30k miles) then the coil packs should last the life of the car. It's only when people leave the plugs in for extended intervals that the coil packs are put under strain with the resistance of the plugs.

Hi Dom, Yes, Since owning the car (beginning of year) its never felt as quick as I was expecting, also seems to be lacking that great 5-pot sound (which I only really heard after the cleaning the BPS for a brief time) COVID got in the way of going some events this year to compare with others too!!

No dash lights or messages are showing and no codes appear to have been recorded or showing - which surprises me as coming from Audi lights would go on for the smallest of reasons!

The car is on less than 30k and has been previously serviced regularly mainly by Volvo independents. Not sure if the plugs have been changed recently so will add OEM plugs to the list!

Threw a new fuel pressure sensor on the end of the rail the other week, as id noticed the car had suddenly developed a minor delay between pressing the accelerator and the car responding.

You can get the Bosch Fuel pressor sensor on ebay now for a shade over £30.

For our cars, its the sensor that states compatibility with MK2 Focus RS and ST (as well as the P1 Volvo T5s).

Car takes a fair while to adjust to new FPS so it will feel very boggy when first running it. Probably worth doing an ECU reset (disconnect battery for 30mins).

- Cleaned the MAP Sensor (found on the intercooler coupling, drivers side) with CRC MAF sensor cleaner.
- Replaced the Pierberg TCV (Turbo Control Valve) which is accessible via the drivers side wheel arch. - approx £30 for this sensor - Boost Pressure Control Valve PIERBURG 7.28197.16.0
- Replaced the 'Turbo Check Valve' (or sometimes refered to as the "Crankcase breather valve). This valve is accessible from the top of the engine, where the turbo pipe connects to the turbo - approx £30 - Volvo PN: 30677524

My T5 is approaching 140,000 miles and it's top end performance in 3rd gear was crap. Of the above changes, the biggest improvement to 70-90mph 3rd gear performance came with cleaning the MAP Sensor. Probably needs replacing but cleaning it was sufficent stop the ECU from holding back boost at the top end.

As metioned, the top end performance used to be crap, whereas now, I can feel the engine hit peak power at 5000rpm.

Hope this helps someone.

Here is my current acceleration on my stock S40 T5 after doing all of the above. Car is supposed to do 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, and it looks like I'm getting very close to that:

Don't worry about mileage it has no negative effect on performance in fact it enhances it . Are you sure your fuel pump is ok . holding normal pressure at full power ?
