I am thinking of getting a diesel V70 but am confused about the difference between the diesel and turbo diesel as performance and fuel figures appear to be the same. Surely the turbo should be quicker. Your comments would be appreciated.

850 and the first V70's were TDI's.
When the P2 V70 was introduced they renamed it the V70 2.5D; once the D5 engine was launched it became the V70 D5. When the D5 was changed to 185 from 163 bhp the lower powered engine was badged once more as the 2.4D, with the 185 badged as the D5. Hope that helps, and I think I've got it right!

Take your time looking for one, there are plenty out there. I waited a while until i got mine - 119k FVSH(supplying dealer) 1 owner, 1 1/2 inch history file with it-£2200. Paid a bit over the odds but i know the car inside out with its Service History and other bits and bobs! Some people were asking more than that for much higher mileage ones, in a worse condition! |

The last of the "phase 1" V70 diesels were badged as 2.5D, these being called V70 "classic" also. I have one, made in May 2000 (W reg) when Volvo had already started producing the phase 2 V70's. I guess they were using up some phase 1 parts to sell a few more cars. Note that ALL Tdi's and 2.5D's (whatever the body shape) use the Audi 2.5 turbo diesel engine which continued to 2002 when the common rail D5 replaced it. Regards.
