Default European Breakdown cover for 17 yr old car.

Does anyone know a reputable company selling breakdown cover for older cars? I am taking our 17 yr old 850 abroad in a few days time and think breakdown cover would be prudent.

So far the only quotes seem to be £300 - £400!!

I seems once the car is past 10 yrs or even 15 yrs the cost goes up.

It can be difficult to get Euro cover on an old car.

I only own old cars, and I drive around Europe every year, so when I renew car insurance I always take out a policy with optional breakdown cover attached - checking that Euro cover is included.

Ive got a 92 5 series, and a 96 850 in Spain both are now on Spanish plates but prior to them be re registered I dont remember paying any more than on a newer car.

Are they actually telling you the age affects the price?

I managed to sort it eventually. I took out optional breakdown cover with my policy last year. It was just a case of adding europe onto it, I didn't realise that was possible until I read these posts and contacted my insurance.

Glad you have it sorted. I know that many recovery policies limit European cover to cars under 10 years old.

For reference, Britannia Rescue don't have any age limit and if you happen to belong to CSMA you get a good discount too.

Are you in the AA? If yes, that will cover for brake downs in Europe. Like the German ADAC does... Brake down where ever you are and your car will be taken to the next dealership or even delivered to your door step!
