Gas Smacks
Hi all, i was wondering if anyone on here has ever tried this set up. Its basically a battery cell filled with water and caustic soda, which gives of hydrogen, as far as i know, which gets fed into the air filter of your engine, petrol or diesel....
Its bound to make the combustion bigger, so the car must go further....surely... I was thinking of getting an old..... should i confess......series three landy and running this through it......... Its called a smacks booster....made out of some old 4" plastic dr ainage pipe....with a flame arrester in line.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKejxffTuZg Comments welcome Graham |

I'd invest in a Turbo Twister if I were you too, to make sure its nicely mixed in with the turbulent air.
A set of Fuel Magnets probably won't go amiss, just to make sure the fuel is getting through properly .. |

Yeah, and you could also put a can or two of Instant Engine Repair, and one of those nice big silencers that will give you at least 160mph.
OH! And don't forget some of those colourful flame stripes for a bit more extra speed!

Remember to let your insurance company know, your breakdown cover know, and its probably a good idea to have a trauma team and helemedic standing by ...
You know, for when the flame front shoots back and blows up your "battery" ... Engines are designed to work with Oxygen, all putting an extra slightly more flamable gas in with it will do is screw with the fuelling. (And not in a good way!) Hell, give it a try though, would make an awesome toy for bonfire night ... make a flamethrower or similar! |

It's essentially against the laws of thermodynamics. The electricity used to produce minute amounts of hydrogen by electrolysis is generated by your vehicle's engine and alternator, which basically is a device for converting stored chemical energy (in the form of petrol/diesel) into kinetic energy (with plenty of energy wasted along the way as sound and heat), then into electical energy (losing more in the process as sound and heat). If every part of the system was 100% efficient (which is impossible) you'd only break even, as it is the various losses along the way mean you're using extra fuel to run your 'hydrogen cell', to produce very small quantities of hydrogen which are at best messing with the combustion efficiency of your engine, and at worst liable to leak, accumulate, detonate and blow the bonnet off your car.
Or, to approach it from another angle, if it worked as advertised wouldn't manufacturers be queuing up to fit it to their cars? They employ hundreds of chaps in labcoats with lots of letters after their name to spend all day working out ways of making more efficient cars. I can't see Volvo turning down the chance to produce an XC90 which does 50mpg (and charging the customer £10k extra for the privilege of owning one). This kind of thing has been around for years and years and years, I have an old copy of Motorsport magazine from the 60s which has a tiny advert in the back pages among the ads for kenlowe fans and fake sheepskin seat covers trying to sell you "the advanced 100mpg carburettor the oil companies tried to cover up!".

When I was young about 18 and charged up on a mixture of illegal substances and booze, working in a Ford breakers yard with loads of spares and stuff at my disposal I had a crazy brainwave that I think Ive told some of you, but in my deluded mind where I hadnt slept for days I was sure it would work as follows:
I had a 2 litre Cortina at the time, I got a length of windscreen washer hose off another car in the yard, on the end of it I attached a washer jet off an old MK2 Escort which was made of brass/copper mix and had a mounting hole/tab which a screw went through, I screwed a self tapper through the hole and into the top of my twin choke weber carb where the airfilter bolts would usually go, (No air filter btw and the choke flaps were binned for better air flow) so ive now got a washer jet aiming into one side of the carb on top, with a hose connected going to my washer bottle FULL OF PETROL! The idea was when at full throttle I would press my washer stalk and inject extra fuel into the engine lol, I took the car out onto the industrial estate to test it, it didnt work very well at all, by the time I had got back to the yard, the pipe had melted and was spewing fresh petrol all over the place, you can guess what happened, it was very lucky I had left the bonnet off and there was a fire extinguisher handy!
