How lucky can you get?
Believe it or not this tyre is just 17 months old, supplied and fitted by a major national high street company. (You'd be surprised at what they do!)
3-4mm tread left, evenly worn, correctly inflated, balanced, rotated. Car is a 1997 2.5 V70 10v auto on LPG, so hardly a tarmac burner. We were just about to go on holiday and so I decided to give everything a quick once-over, even though the car is well-maintained and sensibly driven, I like to sure about these things. Guys who fitted the new tyres said that in all probability it was speed bumps and those 'rumble strips' that will have done for the tyre. Point is that if the car had only been 17 months old too, it would have had one service and never even have been for it's first MoT. And does any garage really ever examine the INSIDE walls of each tyre when a car is serviced? Morale of the story is - check your tyres - frequently! My dealership checks the wheels in all angles...
Inside, profile and outside... They found a little curbing on one of my Pirelli P-Zeros and noted that it should be replaced. Wasn't much, about 1p size... I never changed it but kept my eye on it at all times...

Tyred out
Marketed as CEAT, because they're allegedly made by Pirelli, supplied in this country by Kwik Fit.
I shall be taking them back. I won't be buying any more! Jack |

That's not normal, and hardly likly to be caused by speed bumps or rumble strips unless your hitting speed bumps repeatidly at high speed in the same place.

Well done for spotting it. That rubber on the sidewall looks awful for just 17 months!

even though they were fitted 17months ago, the tyres could be quite a few years older, and if thats true, kwik fit have been a bit naughty.
There should be a date stamped into the tyre wall somewhere, looks something like 6 numbers in a row. Tyres have a shelf life of 5 years fater which the rubber starts to harden and they will be more liable to cracking etc. when i did hillclimbs, we only ever used tyres no more than a few years old, afte rthat they had lost a lot of the grippiness. worth checking the date stamp.

yeah tyres have a shelf life of 5 years, there is a date code on the side wall, if they sold the tyre in its last year of shelf life then a further 17 months will make the tyre look odl and perish like your tyre has, ceat are made by pirelli and are a very good tyre, i had them on my bmw 5 series and could not fault them and price is also good and the fact they come with free punture repairs for the life of the tyre is brill

It is actually only a 4 digit code showing week and year produced.
Example: 0311 03 -> 3rd week of 11 -> 2011

I had a set of Pirellis on my car and decided to take them off because the sidewalls cracked a lot so being made by them might not be such a good thing.
