Default D5 injector swap

Just received a S/H injector from a Volvo breaker . Correct code etc . This one is minus the "washer and bolts etc "

last one i did has been great , but i paid the extra to buy volvo washer and new bolts . Now i know many have said they never ever bother with new bolts and the washer can be re used etc . The guy who serviced it this year also said there is far to much "voodoo" going on with swapping injectors over and he has yet to see one leak using the old connections etc

But... what about the "bedding" in of the washer ? The mechanic who did it last time used a special drill type bit to ensure the bottom of where the injector sits was "flat" but others say its not really worth the effort ?

Also is the correct "Torque " for the bolts about 20 .? i know its very low !

Just clean the seat for the washer really well. I took to using blue roll on a thin screwdriver. Wooden dowel rod is popular, and that's what the factory special tool consists of. I forget the torque figure, but it is pretty low. Do you have access to a Haynes manual?

Good luck with used injectors - I had such a bad run, I decided it wasn't worth my time swapping them over. Unless they're cheaper than they were last time I bought one (around a year ago, for £50), I think it's a false economy when a Bosch dealer re-con is barely over £100 (if it doesn't leak fuel, but that's another story...).

cheers

James

MY injector comes with a 6 month exchange if it leaks

Only takes a few mins to check. if it does not leak in that time , i reckon it will be ok. Last one has been fine for a year

I have some dowel ready to clean out the bottom etc

Sorry, I wasn't too clear - I have had a total of 12 used injectors in my car, and only one was OK (in terms of fuelling). I had six flowbenched by Bosch, and only one passed.

The ones that leaked were the (Bosch) dealer-refurbed ones! I now have Bosch factory refurbs which are dry, but I am suspicious that one (or more) isn't right. The set are going back to be flowbenched as soon as I get time to have them off the car.

cheers

James

Thats why the breakers promised me they had come off low mile cars and ones they had running .The first is as good as the day it was fitted
I plan to test each month now i have made a MK182938746352638 testing set !!

if this new one is no good , it will cost me the postage only until i get one that works .

there also seems to be a common issue on which injectors fail , not the Type numbers, but left to right as you look at the engine . 1 . been the most common

car would not start today......flat battery trying. battery now charged. All tools ready for tomorrow .Reccon it will be 20 mins max , as long as the bloody thing is not stuck. Then i might have to hit it (This does not mean i am suggesting violence towards a lump of metal i own !)

with luck it will be fine , if not...... hell knows !

but once its working i will "Liqui moli" the injectors directly to ensure they are really clean inside
