Smile DPF - not regenerating Please help

Hi All,

I own a S40 (2006) Diesel. The car has performed very well and I have been very happy with it until last year when my DPF filter clogged up. I had it cleaned at the service centre, only about 6 months ago - and now I have the same problem again.

I admit the car has not been on a dual carriage way - and most of the time it is simply doing "stop - start" journey in the city.

As soon as this happened for the second time - I took the car out for a long drive - and tried to push the engine to aprox 3000 RPM and 67 Miles/h for quite a while (30 to 40 mins). Unfortunately nothing happened. the car is still sluggish and dashboard light is still on.

I am thinking that the DPF regeneration is not kicking in - could this be true ? what can you guys advice?
Shall I take it for another long run ? could that be dangerous ?

Any suggestion/advice will be of great value.

Regards
Jeanu

Can you give us more detail on what engine you have? The Ford/PSA engines 1.6 and 2.0 4cyl diesels use an additive in the regeneration which causes ash build up and the DPF needs to be replaced.

Default D5 DPF regeneration and engine temperature

Hi, I learned that an out-of-order-thermostat prevents engine temperature to reach the needed temp for regeneration to start.
Have You got the trouble codes read? eng.temp, dpf pressure gap...
A forced regeneration by dealer and/or reset of codes.

That's not entirely true. Can't speak for the 1.6 but the 2.0D S40 / V50 with the Powershift transmission does not use additive. These cars have a 'dry' system same as the D5.
