Default Key re-programming

2012 Key Fob - Attempted fix of the floppy flip key syndrome via a eBay replacement, well cut a long story short the transponder got damage! Sourced a replacement half thanks to the guys at FRF, the other half which has the buttons is fully serviceable and locks and unlocks the vehicle.
So next step is I believe to get the software and re-programming done. As I understand this has to be done by the dealer? Anyone had experience of doing this, recommendations or would know how much I should expect to be pay.

Yes, Dealer Only, due to the obvious security implications....

For an accurate estimate of Dealer Costs, try ringing the local dealer and asking them for a cost to program a new key to the car

A new transponder is identical to a new key - don't confuse them with the history, just say you have a new key and it must be programmed to the vehicle.

I just got a new complete key for my xc90 as only ever had one key,

For the key blade to key number, alarm fob bit and the 2 bits of software to program them in even at with no labour it was thick end of 200quid,

Cheaper than a window and a recovery charge i suppose if i ever lost the only key i had

The only problem you have as i see it is that the paperwork you signed when returned would have stated you were happy with the work done so legally they have you over a barrel.

Morally though, i am sure a word with the manager explaining calmly that the damage was not noticed when returned due to lighting and as you say the delivery guy keen to get off, i would be surprised if Sturgess would be prepared to lose repeat business over such a petty amount.

It all depends how you come across and i would advise not to lose your temper and start screaming and shouting. If Sturgess do not budge then calmly let them know that you will not be visiting them again and will be naming and shaming on this forum.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.
