Lol! Jewellery!
Rattley jewellery... Btw theres a poss it could be cam-wear, if its been (as often is the case I have noted since delving into the Volvo world) incirrectly filled with B5 all or most of its life. There used to be a family cavalier mk2 which sounded horribly tappety, the cam was worn thus the followers keft a gap at rest, couldnt be rectified without a new cam, it was an old car, so it was left-be as performance-wise it was very strong still. The car was bought once rusted through on the basis of its good (albeit noisy) engine for transplant in another cav! |

Injectors are sealed, checked them this morning and there’s no sign of blow past at the seals. It did originally have 3 that where leaking. I’ve even swapped the complete set from my old D5 that ran quietly, the rattle didn’t change, which rules out the physical injector. Although I was convinced it was an injector or possible manifold blow, there’s no sign of either.
At initial start up (something) there’s a definite rapper noise for a few seconds before it quietens down. Can still hear a distinct rattle on the rocker cover around the 3&4 cylinders. |

Decide to buy an injector seat reaming tool just in case there is a little blowpast somewhere. Was only £15 and will come in handy in the future I’m sure.

3rd oil change in 1000 miles - this engine must be really clean inside now!
Now got B4 fuchs in it, warmed it up and added the recommended snake oil then just had a 5 mile run locally. Wil have to see what happens over time. It may be my imagination - probably is - but seems a better under acceleration now. Has a definite tapping at idle though. Think I'm probably expecting too much from an old diesel engine. ;-) I was seriously aiming at 5 this morning, now now veering towards 1. |

See how ya go fella!
Well, injector seals aside, it can definitely only be mechanical now... Was quick delivery on the oil! Or did you find it locally? The very last sentence has me baffled though, 5? 1? |
