Default C30 Injector relearn Procedure.

Hello fellow Volvo owners....

I’m hoping someone can help me with a problem I’m having with my 1.6d 2010 C30.

The car was running like a bag of spanners (Lumpy) a few weeks after purchasing so I returned to the garage who had an auto electrician diagnose the fault as a fault on injector 4. The injector was replaced with a brand new one and the car ran great however there was now a knocking noise. So I returned the car again and was told the injector prob just needs coding. The auto electrician was called again however he said these can’t be coded on this car at the the engine / ECU Needs to relearn the new injectors. He said there was a procedure for this while driving in 2nd, 3rd and 4th I need get the revs high at around 4K and then allow the revs to fall back to idle before changing up and repeat this for the next grar and so on. I was told this can take several hundred miles before the injectors are relearned.

The car is running worse than ever, very lumpy and smoking like crazy. Has anyone come across this before or am I being done up like a kipper?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatfuly received.

Thank you

Is the injector which was replaced the same class as the other ones? (The big single digit 4,5 or 6) Two different classes on the engine will not go well.

I have recently replaced all my injectors, and it had no problems with starting and running ( apart from still unsolved cold start issue -facepalm- but nothing new indicating problems after injector change). I did not notice any symptoms like you or anything indicating relearning, which as I understand should go quite quickly since engine uses sensors and normal reading parameters and adjusts injectors accordingly in real time.

As Hoks said...all injectors need to be the same class...

The learning thing is available for the 1.6D 115 hp...The 1.6D 109hp has no learning procedure as far as I remember...Which engine do you have?

I’ve been told by the garage the replacement injector is the same,
The numbers on them both match. I didn’t realise there where 2 different engines, how can I find out which engine type I have? All I can tell you is it’s a 2010 1.6d C-30 R design D2

All 4 injectors installed on the car need to be the same...Probably you are speaking about the old one and the new one...

Look in your car certificate...You should find something with 115 hp (or 84KW) or 109hp (80kw)...

But since yours is D2 it should be the newer one (with 115hp)...The older one(109hp) is simply called 1.6D instead of D2...

So indeed than...Your car should run a learning procedure and the behavior described by you its normal until the learning procedure is complete...But I am not sure if the procedure is starting automaticaly ... As far as I know the procedure should be started and completed by a diagnostic tool hooked to the car ...It takes some time(probabably 15 min) but the problem is you need a clear traffic...

Do some miles, and if it's not comming to normal,go back to the garage and ask them to make a learning procedure...

Good luck!
