Default Track Rods/Tie Rods

I need to replace the track/tie rods on my 2008 facelift V50 and have a couple of questions:

Are track rods & tie rods the same thing? I'm assuming they are but thought best to check first!

Does anyone know if there is a 'heavy duty version? If so a link would be really helpful

I've noticed they come in different lengths, does this matter? And why are they different lengths?

Thanks in advance 😊

My understanding is track rod or tie rods are indeed the same thing, but just different terms used by people.

Not sure there is a "heavy duty" version available

When you say they come in different lengths, I'm a bit lost. Its normally the tie rod end, and that is screwed on to the inner tie rod, although maybe you have seen the complete unit listed as one part? Sometimes they come with the inner tie rod and tie rod end already screwed together in one piece?

Apparently there are according to Google!!

I've searched various places like Eurocarparts and others and found inner track rods with different lengths. I was just wonder why this might be the case and does it matter which one I buy?

There are inner and outer TRE's on our cars, I've had to replace both on separate occasions.

The 'inner' ones are at the steering rack end and require a strange spanner/socket to tighten them if I remember rightly (a garage did them) and the 'outer' ones are at the wheel hub end and these are the ones that a tracking shop will loosen off and turn on the threaded part to adjust the track.

The inner ones have a weird 'ball' at the end with slots to accept a large spanner. I would think the inner ones are longer, the outer ones are probably 120mm - ish long?
