Managed to check the pressures last night. The recommend pressure is 35 psi. None of the 4 were at the correct pressure.

Front Offside: 39
Front Nearside: 36
Rear Offside:38
Rear Nearside: 39

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a quick run to see if the vibration had gone and as my wife has requisition the car today and tomorrow I won't get the opportunity to check for a couple of days.

It must have been at least 20 years ago that this was done on my car to resolve vibrations.

I'm now 5 weeks in to driving with the winter rubber and the vibration is still there. It has been back twice for balancing and both times it shows as balanced. I've been doing a bit of Googling and on an American Volvo site there are a number of threads describing exactly the same issue as I have. One resolution seems to be to have the wheels balanced using a Hunter Road Force balancer. This machine applies a force to the tyre while it is spinning and simulates load on the tyre. The only problem is the nearest centre with this machine is about 75 miles from where I live (near Edinburgh).

Given that the tyres will only be on for another 7 weeks I'm tempted to live with it although it is unpleasant on my 60 mile round trip commute.

Before next winter comes I'll try to find a tyre fitter closer than 75 miles from me who has a Road Force balancer.

In all my years of car ownership I've never had this issue and can't understand why the Volvo seems to be so sensitive to balancing.
