I've done the front wheel bearings on my V50 comparatively cheaply. I bought a ford/volvo wheel bearing tool from ebay and a new bearing hub assembly. I was able to remove the brake parts and pop the bottom ball joint off to get the driveshaft out then press out the old bearing with the hub knuckle in situ. Think the tool was about £50 iirc

I think this should be a link to the one I got.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/232788651038 The price seems to have gone up a bit but still not crazy. I seem to remember getting it from a supplier called vidaxl on ebay but at the moment they are only listing a larger size one

Recently had a bad rumble/drone from the rear of my own car. Jacked it up, tried moving the wheel, rocking at 12 and 6 o' clock position, and also at 3 and 9 o'clock position, but no sign of wear in the bearing.
Got very bad, over a very short period, brought it to a mechanic, who assured me that even though there was no movement when rocking the wheel, it was certainly the bearing. He changed the rear bearing, and it's now perfectly quiet inside again! |
