Bit tricky to say for sure without actually hearing it happen, could be a weepy injector, a blocked injector, cat sooted up or even contaminated with petrol. Shame lockdown is preventing you giving it a good 30-40 mile blast at the moment, preferably with some injector cleaner (or a slug of ATF-U in the tank) to clean the injectors and fuel system.

No chance of cat being blocked as it has been deleted! i have used Redex before in the car. injectors will be replaced this year , i don't have a great sense of smell so can;t tell if the smell is still there....A smell being present makes me think it may be a leaky FPR? coupled with a clogged idle control valve? It seems to be more prone to stalling now than ever...

Fairly simple test for the FPR leaking is to have the engine idling, pull the small bore hose off it and put your thumb on the end of the hose and observe the stub on the FPR for a while. If fuel dribbles out of it that's your problem.

Also check the manifold stub where the vac hose joins to ensure it is clear and clean.

Thanks to all who contributed...the problem turned out to be the FPR (Well done Dave!) and the stalling was due to a faulty CPS (90%) and also a sticky / slow IACV
