Ceramic coatings
Hi,
Has anyone got any experience of using these ceramic coatings on their paintwork? Some of the adverts genuinely make it look too good to be true. Who has it on their car, which brand, and was it worth it. Also how much prep work was involved pre application. As my car is pearl black the thought of less paint maintenance appeals to me. Thanks. |

I've got a GTECH coating applied, should be some photos in the gallery.
I think its excellent, however....it still needs to be cleaned but it does seem to take longer to get as dirty, if that makes sense. just giving it q quick clean with nice mit and a bucket of warm soapy water brings it back to its brilliant condition, rain beads as if you've spent hours polishing just from a quick wash! my car had very low miles and had a coating applied before buying, the guy who did it said it was in very good condition, only spent about 12 hours getting the paintwork right before applying the coating... preparation time is entirely how fussy you are, just remember any swirls or marks will be preserved under the coating for a very very long time! if your fussy get a detailer to go over the car first for best results. the best thing is the cleaning afterwards, its just soo easy to clean, also bird mess comes off just rinsing with water as long as you don't leave it too long. |

I've research it myself and it really needs to be applied after a machine polish, to that end I intend to buy a DA polisher and all the pads and cutting compounds etc and practice on a scrap bonnet or something before having a go on my car. It's easy enough to 'burn' the clear coat if you're not careful.
I once asked a detailer for a cost to machine polish the car....£280.00! The ceramic coating is the final 'seal' to protect the freshly prepared clear coat. Check out 'White Details' on youtube.

My car is the same colour as yours so it would be good to see. I have a DA polisher and a lot of products but it just feels like I’m constantly touching up the body work. If it’s as durable as it appears then it won’t feel I’m undoing all my hard work every time I wash it. Terry. |
