Default second key activation

I have just bought a 2006 V70 diesel with a "spare key" which has a blank blade and does not work the locks. Can anyone advise me how to get it activated so my wife can gain her driving independence?

Default Could be bad news

Dealer only job I think.
Needs new key to be progammed to car. Your spare key will not have I.D. code with it.
Is that the only keys you have for car? One functioning one spare?

Smile spares dont come cheap..

Its a dealer only choice when you need a replacement spare key, but they can do it, something around £250 for most volvos from that era, if you have a damaged 2nd key then you have other options for repairing it. When using the 2nd key the car will set things like seat/mirror position when you unlock with the spare btw.

Its a key question when buying a used volvo (excuse the pun) ..

Dedicated car ignition key cutting/alarm firms have the software that can clone the existing chip in the working key and laser cut the new key - since the new key will be an exact copy of the one existing key it has the same "key code" - you effectively have 2 identical copies of the one key i.e. if the one you have has a Key Code id of "0123466789ABCDEF" then so will the copy - whether you'd want to have the missing key's ID removed is worth thinking about - I think it can be done using VIDA. (NB Timpsons will cut a dead key, the Hempstead branch didn't have the software to program the chip, although they were able to tell me chip it needed)

(NB VIDA can't program keys/chips)

The major question with so many previously owned cars.............what on earth do the dealers/sellers do with all the missing keys and fobs...or are they just waiting to "borrow the vehicle back" when they "find" that missing key?
