I'm fitting a magnetic plug. Rapid drain on a gear box? Wouldn't bother...

We're you able to find the fill plug after? I found it blended in with the ribs on the casting and not immediately obvious.

Paul.

Hi, time flies, sorry I didn't repond to this. I still cannot find it. In the below photo, could someone please circle where I'm supposed to look?

P.S. Just got the instructions up in VIDA for this VIN and it definitely doesn't match the location on the actual car. What do I do now?

Thanks

Could this be it, on the other side of the axle, towards the front? It's the correct height:

Hi,

Plug is much, much easier to get to from the top:

Got it out and it looks like this:

What's the point of that?

That doesnot look like my fill or drain plug, mine had a plain flat face and a copper washer on it.

From the early pictures you are too far back. Fill plug is way in front of and above drive shaft. Find the drain plug, go up and forward from there and fill plug is in the ribs of the gearbox. Reach from nearside wheel arch after removing wheel. 24mm socket and 15" of extention bars will put ratchet into wheel arch and easy removal.

I'm absolutely stumped... Took the inner wheel arch off and still no luck. If you look in this diagram, the only thing *forward* of the axle is the dimpled plug I removed. The problem is I'm missing the top no. 8, which is rearward of the axle:

Here is another photo of my M66 towards the front, can't go higher as the wheel arch is in the way:

Conclusion is my M66 just doesn't have a drain plug... I might have to swing by Volvo to ask.

Right, your picture shows the drain plug but does not go high enough to to show the fill plug.
Sorry my bad, fill plug is forward of the drive shaft I think but to the rear of the drain plug but much higher up the box. I've no idea what 9 is but fill plug it's not according to my gearbox.

As you can see from the exposed diagram it's right against the rear Web of the gearbox. So any further back and you miss the box completely
Paul.

Hello!

I went down to Volvo and I've finally got it from the horse' mouth: My 2014 M66 does not have a fill plug! Apparently you refill the correct amount back in via the reversing light switch...

What's odd is that their VIDA, when input with my registration number, should this in the instructions, where my VIDA, when plugged in to the car, shows a proper fill plug. Very odd, but there must have been an update at some point.

Thanks
