As usual, the fault wasn’t there when they took the car in. They couldn’t find any faults but have done an update which seems to have made the camera output brighter and clearer. This is the update that gives a countdown on starting up, of all the functions and whether they are green or not. I read about this some time ago so I must be late in getting it. Anyway, it’s fine at the moment but I have a feeling (hope not) it might recur.....

Camera was not available again two days after it went in. Now have asked the garage what the next move is. Not happy keep taking it 70 mile round trip only to not get the fault fixed. Intermittent faults are not good!

Oh no that is really annoying. Did they take the bumper off the first time and have a look at the wiring? The photo I was shown of mine filled me with horror. .. looked like the loom was opened up, camera spliced in and then loom wrapped in insulating tape. I should have asked for a copy of the photo.

Sounds like a good idea to let another dealer look at it, if they will, the current one does not seem to be getting anywhere. Perhaps a fresh set of eyes may spot something.

Well, the camera finally gave up and its with the dealer now. They just rang and confirmed that they changed the camera but the problem is still there, so must be a wiring loom fault? ? Will update with the outcome.

Well at least it's not intermittent now....
On my v70 the wiring to the camera looked as though it had been hacked about and then fixed with insulating tape. This is from new incidentally. The bodyshop weere so surprised they took a photo of it to show me.... |

Yes, I remember you saying, sounds like mine maybe in a similar state as the failure seemed dependent on weather, moisture and temperature so maybe the tapes given up !!

Latest is that one of the wiring looms needs replacing. 10 day wait for parts.

Well they have had the car for 2.5 weeks now, 10 days has come and gone and when I rang today they said the latest is the middle of May! to get harness from Volvo as they have to make it it up?
E mailed Volvo UK HQ two days ago, not even an acknowledgement. Dealer has said best to have my car back and wait, I am loathed to do that due to the miles involved keep getting it back to the dealer. Courtesy car is a V40 D2. Have asked for a better car, or some compensation for driving a V40 and paying for a 47k car. If I take the car back, it’s without a front camera, should I just give in and do this, what about the fact that the car is faulty after less than 6 months? The Dealer said today “it’s only a drivers aide” What would others do ?
