Question stigansven

Just recently my engine heater clock stopped working (ether filled ) due to the outer casing being broken so I bought a mechanical one. that fits the same hole in the dash. This one is electrical so it states it has to be wired to the ignition switch / one wire to ground/ one to the cylinder head. Does it have to be wired to the ignition ,could it be wired to the fuse block , or to the coil (at the ignition end for there is no armoured cable on my car ) The coil was renewed about 10 years ago minus outer cable.

It would be best to state which model and year at least, and as much detail as possible from non-original equipment you are considering installing... that way people who answer your inquiry can give more specific help...but if it had a filled thermal system temp indicator, I will assume it was either 122, 544, or 1800...replacement gauge (like the Huke Basart type) probably needs Ign Power (which you can get from Fuseblock, Fuse 2 of a 122) or Terminal 54 at OE Ign Switch.

Ron thanks for the reply. Right Yes i did omit to put on the model (partly ) SORRY
On the question of power to the unit, could I not take it from the " YOUR "
brake light switch rather than the ignition this would solve a lot of problems due to the inaccessibility of the switch
Peter Cannon

The car is a PV 544 1863 fitted with a B20.

Peter;

Checking 544 Wiring Diagram (http://www.sw-em.com/544%20Wiring%20Diagram.jpg ) we see that "Bromskontakt" is supplied by Fuse 1 (25A)... so in answer to your question: Yes, you could certainly power an Elec Temp Indicator with Ign Power from that node (and save yourself some contortions under the Dashboard)...current I expect is minuscule and would not require increasing the fuse value.

Good Hunting!

That must be the oldest PV in existence !! Mine's only a 1959 I thought that was getting on a bit.
