Default Number plates

Evening all.

I am after a GB flagged number plate to replace my standard rear number plate in advance of a trip to Europe.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, reasonably priced supplier please?

A.

You have to have GB on it not just a flag. you can buy the stickers that fit on the plate from car shop for a couple of quid, that way you can remove it later.

Most car shops that make plates will do a flagged one.

I use http://www.platesforcars.co.uk/ they are based in Dublin and will do custom plates to your design and road legal. I have a set of plates on my V40 that are three years old in daily use and still as good as the day I put them on the car.

I just order them off eBay these days. You get them delivered to the door in a couple of days, fully road legal with or without a GB sticker. no filling out forms or taking ID and loads of questions for less than £7 each.

I found these a few years back. As they are in Dublin, you avoid all the 'tedious' DVLA checks which a UK supplier is obliged to do before you can buy the plates. I'm surprised the DVLA have not realised this is a very easy work-around for criminals to get 'dodgy plates'. How they stop it is another matter.

V5 and driving licence, show them, numbers recorded in the big book and plates made.

I do cheat, I have them made through a garage at Llangwrofan. If plod wants to check them they are welcome.

Paul.

Motor factors, trailer places, graphic companies. Phone a few and get prices. One place near me last time I asked was £25 a plate yet a car audio place did them for £15 with a GB sticker on them. Shop round is the best bet. Don't forget a road legal plate must have supplier name and code on them at the bottom. I've heard of people getting stopped for not having this.

That's not a strict requirement - only for plates made after a certain date (which I can't recall or be bothered to Google!)

So the Irish plates off eBay may be illegal ?
