Default Do you need to program ecu after emptied DPF

I emptied the dpf can a few days ago, and ive always heard that you need to program the delete in the ecu after a dpf delete, but after some driving i still have 0 codes from my obd reader and the car runs fine.
So my question is if its really necessary to do this? and if so what is its purpose?

You need to reset the dpf under ecm in vida.....the ecm calculates growing ash content in the dpf (resulting pressure difference) it needs to be zeroed because there is no ash yet in a new dpf
